Twitter Fame Began to Fade

Twitter service popularity slowly began to fade. Reports from institutions comScore survey shows during October and the number of Twitter users has decreased.

Ilmuwan Kembangkan Serat Optik Tipis

Para ilmuwan dari University of Adelaide menemukan bahwa cahaya dapat diubah menjadi serat optik yang lebih tipis dari yang diperkirakan sebelumnya.

Penemuan ini diharapkan bisa membuka gerbang dalam menemukan perangkat yang lebih efisien bagi prosessing data optik di bidang jaringan telekomunikasi dan komputasi optik.

Seperti dikutip dari TG Daily, Sabtu (14/11/2009), data sebelumnya menyebutkan batas ukuran diameter serat optik adalah ratusan nanometer. Jika ukurannya diperkecil dari ukuran ini, cahaya akan mulai pecah dan menyebar kemana-mana.

Namun Professor Tanya Monro dari Federation Fellow at the University of Adelaide menemukan bahwa cahaya ini bisa dipaksa diatas batas tersebut,  dengan dipengaruhi setidaknya dua faktor.

Hal ini bisa diketahui berkat terobosan baru dalam teori pemahaman sifat cahaya dalam skala nano dan penggunaan generasi baru serat optik skala nano yang dikembangkan oleh Institute for Photonics & Advanced Sensing (IPAS).

"Dengan bisa menggunakan serat optik sebagai sensor ketimbang menggunakannya sebagai pipa pemancar cahaya, kita bisa mengembangkan perangkat yang bisa mendeteksi berbagai hal. Contohnya keberadaan virus flu di bandara, membantu pembuahan invitro atau IVF (in vitro fertilization) dalam menentukan sel telur mana yang potensial dalam pembuahan dan lain sebagainya," kata Monro.

Mim Mikroblogging Yahoo Berbahasa Indonesia

"Kata 'Meme' di internet dikenal sebagai sesuatu yang menyebar dengan cepat dan menjadi perhatian semua orang," ujar pihak Yahoo.

Istilah ini, lanjut mereka, diciptakan oleh Richard Dawkins dan diterbitkan dalam bukunya yang berjudul "The Selfish Gene" pada 1976. Kata tersebut mengacu pada suatu kepingan kecil dari budaya atau perilaku yang kemudian menduplikasi menjadi banyak di kalangan orang-orang, serupa dengan yang terjadi pada gen dalam bidang biologi.

"Kami menggunakan istilah tersebut sebagai interpretasi bebas dari makna ilmiah aslinya, namun intinya tetap sama. Dengan kata lain, memperbanyak dan mendistribusikan kepingan-kepingan informasi. Teknologi Rekaman yg digunakan KPK

Berita mengenai KPK (Komisi Pemberantasan Korupsi) yang telah menggunakan teknologi canggih untuk memperlancar pekerjaan mereka sebagai pemberantas korupsi di Indonesia, telah terbukti dengan adanya alat penyadap yang digunakan untuk menyadap percakapan Artalyta Suryani dengan para pejabat Jaksa Agung Muda (JAM).

KPK telah mengalokasikan dana sebesar 34 miliar dari dana APBN dalam proyek pengadaan KPK melalui Daftar Isian Proyek dan Anggaran (DIPA) 035-2/69-03-0-2005, untuk membeli alat sadap jenis portable A (laptop dan receiver) seharga Rp1,512 miliar, jenis B harganya Rp5,25 miliar, dan jenis C harganya Rp4 miliar. Alat penyadap tersebut dinamakan ATIS Gueher Gmbh buatan Jerman.

ATIS (Audio Telecommunication International Systems), adalah sebuah generasi baru dari Instant Recall Recorders (IRC) dalam teknologi solid-state, yang dapat dikoneksikan ke dalam audio source berupa telepon atau handphone GSM/AMPS/CDMA dan akan merekam atau menyadap seluruh komunikasi suara dengan kapasitas aktif lebih dari 680 menit dan 1000 panggilan yang berbeda. Kompresi algoritma yang ada di dalam ATIS telah memperbesar kapasitas penyimpanan dan kualitas suara yang cukup jernih. Sementara itu, pengamat telematika, Roy Suryo, menganggap pembelian alat penyadap ATIS tersebut terlalu mahal, karena sebenarnya harga di pasaran sekitar 8 miliar hingga 12 miliar per unit. Roy mengungkapkan tidak tahu berapa unit alat penyadap yang telah dimiliki KPK hingga sekarang, namun Roy mengemukakan pendapatnya, jika dengan harga 34 miliar hanya membeli satu unit, berarti harga alat sadap tersebut terlalu mahal.

10 Teknologi yang dapat Mencegah Bumi dari Kehancuran

Ada anggapan dari kaum skeptis bahwa teknologi hanya merusak lingkungan. Anggapan ini menantang para ilmuwan untuk mengembangkan teknologi yang ramah lingkungan. 1. Memproduksi minyak secara alami

Misalnya limbah berbasis karbon jika dipanaskan dan diberi tekanan tepat, mampu menghasilkan bahan minyak. Secara alamiah proses ini menbutuhkan waktu jutaan tahun. 2. Menghilangkan garam dari air laut

 
PBB mencatat, suplai air bersih akan sangat terbatas bagi miliaran manusia pada pertengahan abad ini. Ada teknologi bernama desalinasi, yakni menghilangkan kadar garam dan mineral dari air laut sehingga layak diminum. Ini merupakan solusi yang bisa dilakukan untuk mencegah krisis air. Masalahnya, teknologi ini masih terlalu mahal dan membutuhkan energi cukup besar. Kini para ilmuwan tengah mencari jalan agar desalinasi dapat berlangsung dengan energi lebih sedikit. Salah satu caranya adalah dengan melakukan evaporasi pada air sebelum masuk ke membran dengan pori-pori mikroskopis. 

3. Tenaga Hidrogen

Bahan bakar hidrogen dianggap sebagai bahan bakar alternatif bebas polusi. Energi dihasilkan dari perpaduan antara hidrogen dan oksigen. Problemnya adalah bagaimana hidrogen itu dihasilkan. Molekul seperti air dan alkohol harus diproses dulu untuk mengekstaksi hidrogen sehingga menjadi sel bahan bakar. Proses ini juga membutuhkan energi besar. 6. Energi gelombang laut

Laut melingkupi 70 persen permukaan bumi. Gelombangnya menyimpan energi besar yang dapat menggerakkan turbin-turbin sehingga mengasilkan listrik. Problemnya agak sulit memperkirakan kapan gelombang laut cukup besar sehingga memproduksi energi yang cukup. Solusinya adalah dengan menyimpan sebagian energi ketika gelombang cukup besar. Sungai Timur kota New York saat ini sedang menjadi proyek percobaan dengan enam turbin bertenaga gelombanng air. Sedangkan Portugis justru sudah lebih dulu mempraktikan teknologi ini dan sukses menerangi lebih dari 1500 rumah.
