Japan Earthquake 6,7 SR Juni 2011. An earthquake with a strength of 6.7 on the Richter scale occurred off the Pacific Coast of northern Japan early Thursday, June 23, 2011.

Japan Meteorological Agency warned that a tsunami could happen, but canceled the warning less than an hour after the quake.
According to Japan's NHK report, the cities on the coast, Kamaishi and Ofunato, ordered some 8,000 households near the coast to evacuate, but there were no reports of damage or injuries.

According to NHK, the train service in the area were suspended, but resumed operations within an hour.

The quake occurred shortly before 0700 local time and was centered 530 kilometers north-northeast of Tokyo.

The epicenter was off the coast of Iwate prefecture, about 175 kilometers from the earthquake that hit 9 on the Richter scale in northern Japan in March.
